Thank you Sponsors

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to the sponsors of this year’s 2010 Adult Reading Program. Without their generosity we could never hope to provide this service to the citizens of Coffee County.

Two hundred eighty adults participated in this year’s program, reading 1500 books.  Because of our wonderful sponsors, the library was able to provide the participants 85 prizes.

The following local businesses made donations of merchandise, gift certificates, or services:
  AutoZone
  Baker Brothers
  Coffee Café
  Cracker Barrel
  Eaton’s Home Center
  El Manantial Taqueria and Restaurant
  Expressway Lube
  Gateway Tire & Service Center
  Great Clips
  Home Depot
  Jiffy Burger
  Manchester Coffee County Conference Center
  Patch Manor
  Shoneys
  Susan Myers’ Fun Co2
  Walgreens

Without Starbucks, the Coffee County Senior Citizens, Donut Palace and Jiffy Burger we could not have provided the snacks for our kickoff program, the Third Annual Author Signing held January 16, 2009.  Over 350 people came to the library that day to meet the twenty-one authors present.

On behalf of the library staff and the program participants, I thank you.

Third Annual Author Signing

As the kickoff to this year’s adult reading program, your library is hosting its third annual Author Signing.  Nineteen authors will be at the library from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 to chat with the public and sell and/or autograph their books.
Refreshments will be provided by Starbucks.
Currently scheduled to be at the author signing are:

Jana Barrett is the elementary art teacher for Grundy County Schools.  This year Jana published several books including Oh How My Mind Wanders.  So, climb in and hang on, because her mind is on the loose and that is a very dangerous thing!!!

Amber Blaisdell and Tessa Witek co-wrote Beneath Brimstone.  Written for young adults, this is the adventure of newly freed shape-shifters and their journey through foreign and hostile lands.

Patty Blaisdell, mother of Amber Blaisdell, lives right here in Manchester.  She wrote and illustrated The Haunted Shed, a hilarious book for ages 9 – 12.

Bente Gallagher aka Jennie Bentley lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and two children and is a best-selling author for Barnes and Noble.  Her latest book, Spackled and Spooked is the second in the DYI Home Renovation mysteries published by Berkley Prime Crime.

Chester Campbell is also from Nashville and is known for his Greg McKenzie mysteries.  His latest book is the first in a new series though.  The Surest Poison features PI Sid Chance, a former National Parks ranger.

Capt. Ron Cunningham is now a member of the Tullahoma Police Department, but when he was sheriff in Lynchburg, he was part of the hottest undercover legend of the day.  Conspiracy in the Town That Time Forgot is a powerful drama, based on a true story, thirty years in the making.

Kaye Dacus is new to our author signing.  She currently serves as President of Middle Tennessee Christian Writers and lives in Nashville.  Her “Brides of Bonneterre” series is filled with fun, food, family—and lots of romance!

J.T. Ellison is the author of the critically acclaimed Taylor Jackson series, including All the Pretty Girls, and Judas Kiss. Sources say that her next book includes a murder set here in Manchester!

Susan Gregg Gilmore’s first novel, Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen, is rooted in summer vacations spent with her paternal grandmother and grandfather, a revival-bred preacher, who after church on Sundays, always took his granddaughters to the Dairy Queen.  Susan is also new this year to our author signing.

Janice Lynn has been published in more than a half-dozen countries and translated into multiple languages. She has a Master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University and uses her knowledge and experience as a nurse practitioner in her medical romances.  Her latest book is Playboy Surgeon, Top-Notch Dad.

Kevin McCann lives in Dickson with his wife and two children.  He has published six books, including Jackson Diamonds: Professional Baseball in Jackson, Tennessee, The Peg-Legged Politician: The Life of Adam Huntsman, and Hurst’s Wurst: Colonel Fielding Hurst and the Sixth Tennessee Cavalry U.S.A

Ann Moore’s love is early childhood education.  She holds a Master’s degree in education with a minor is psychology and an emphasis on developmental assessment and intervention.  Her latest children’s book, Looking for a Place to Take a Long Winter Nap, is the adventure story of a small bear who uses his 5 senses to learn about his environment.

Lisa Patton is a special events director for the Historic Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee where she resides with her two sons. Her debut, Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter, is a funny and light-hearted tale of a southern belle’s experiences as a Vermont innkeeper.

Weldon Payne returns to our book signing for the third year.  His latest book, Beyond the Rain, is set near steel mills and coal mines near Birmingham, Alabama.  This is the story of a mother, a daughter and the dependency caused by Alzheimers disease.

Elizabeth Terrell’s latest, Racing the Devil, is written under the pseudonym E. Michael Terrell.  Set in Nashville, it features ex-cop turned private investigator, Jared McKean. She, her husband, and their menagerie live in Nashville.

Brenda Rickman Vantrease is a former librarian and holds her PhD from MTSU.  Her second book The Mercy Seller is by turns exotic, mystical, regal and romantic.  BookPage says “Anyone with an interest in European or Church history, religious movements or book arts will find this novel addicting.”

Linda Winters is your library’s very own cataloger and assistant director.  She and granddaughter, Micki Amos, have written their second book about their shared travel experiences: My Trip to Nashville: A Child’s Perspective.  Plus Linda has a two-volume set, Cemeteries and tombstone inscriptions of Coffee County, Tennessee.
